Traveling through Asia and living in Australia has had a huge influence in the way Marijke sees the world and travel continues to inspire her work. “I believe a strong foundation is important from where you can explore the world. Loosely holding your truth in one hand and a compass in the other. Art shows us anything is possible and it has the power to affect us deeply.”

Marijke grew up in a loving family together with her 3 siblings in Stadskanaal Groningen, the Netherlands. Discovering her talent in art by accident, during a workshop from her office job in 2016, ignited a fire inside of her. A little over a year later she had her first solo exhibition. Her thirst for a deeper understanding of art and herself inspired her to enrol in the 1 year mastery program at the Milan Art Institute in 2021. Where she tremendously improved her skills and found her style.
"I love experimenting with new materials, subjects and themes. Starting out free, with bold and bright colours and then creating a well balanced final piece with subtle brushstrokes and details. I really enjoy the diversity of mixed media but the oils make the whole painting come alive."
Marijke currently lives close to her hometown in the city Groningen, Netherlands together with her husband. She is thrilled to have her new big studio with lots of natural light where she can spend hours and hours of painting.

For 2022 and beyond I am planning to expand the number of paintings in my various collections and create prints.
